Having been away from Australia for 5 years, I have learnt to love and appreciate the unique beauty that exists here. I was experimenting with mark making with this piece, a technique where you lay colours in their pure tones and let the eye blend the colours. The result is bold, colourful and expressive. Waratahs are so striking when you see them among the bush and I wanted to capture their beautiful colours. This painting would be a beautiful gift for anyone who loves Australian flora and landscape.
